Acatenango Hike and Overnight Adventure

THE CLIMB:

  • This is a difficult uphill trek.

  • It takes between 3-5 hours to reach the campsite. 

  • An additional 1 hour optional hike to the summit to view the sunrise.

SAFETY

Our company offers a team of experienced, professional guides that come recommended by the Red Cross, military, and top local insurance companies. We provide round-trip transport from Chabad and it's surrounding hotels/hostels.

CONVENIENCE

Our team provides you with all the equipment you’ll need such as camping gear (thermal tent, thermal sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, backpack), we bring along kosher meals from Chabad. Gear for warmth (coat, hat, gloves, and thermal pants) can be hired.

EXPERIENCE

 Once the sun sets, our travelers are gifted with the remarkable view of Volcano Fuego spewing hot lava. 

Travelers are given the option to hike to the summit of the mountain just in time to watch a breathtaking sunrise. 

WHO

Any adventurous traveler. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

WHAT

Departure from Chabad Antigua promptly at 7:30 am. (pickup can be arranged from neighboring hotels/hostels.) Arrive back at Chabad at 12 pm next day.

FOOD

Bring lots of snacks. Kosher meals are included, you can choose vegetarian/vegan options during reservation. We recommend bringing 4-6 liters of water.

COST

Q450 includes the tour, the entrance fee, sleeping cabins and meals - paid to Chabad.

Hiking and thermal gear are available for inexpensive hire at the beginning of the trip.

  • Hiking backpack we recommend 40L (if needed our company has limited quantities that they can lend)

  • 2 sets warm clothes

  • 2 pairs of socks

  • Hiking shoes or boots

  • Toilet paper

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Snacks

  • 4-6 liters of water

  • Garbage bag

  • Cash for Extras at base camp

 
 

Sample Schedule

Leave Chabad

At Chabad there will be delicious tea, coffee and cake to start your day. You will be provided with your meals for the trip, then board the shuttle which takes you to your starting point.

7:30 AM

Start Hike

You may hire a jacket, gloves, a beanie or a walking stick. Pick up your sleeping mat and you're on your way!

9:30 AM

Arrive at Base

A fire will be lit and your tents will be set up for you. You will be given the opportunity to eat lunch. Get ready for a night full of breathtaking erruptions! (weather permitting)

2:30 PM

Sunrise Hike

Wake up and hike for approximately an hour to the top of the mountain to see the incredible sunrise above the clouds (weather permitting)

3:30 AM

Back to Basecamp

Then, it's back to the campsite for breakfast, and from there begins the trek down the mountain

7:30 AM

Return to Chabad

10:30 AM

Return all your gear and hop on the shuttle that will take you back to Chabad
(Pick-up and return is also possible from any hotel or hostel in Antigua).
